PIONEERING LEGAL CAREER

A founding partner of Woodhouse Roden Ames & Brennan, Gay began her law firm in 2001 after years of serving in state and federal legal positions. 32nd Attorney General of Wyoming and the first female to hold the office. Now “of counsel” to the firm, she has watched it grow to 11 attorneys. Despite her remarkable legal career, it’s her athletic journey that continues to inspire others.

The Athletic Journey

Gay’s love for fitness emerged later in life. Growing up in Huntley, Wyoming, before the era of Title IX, opportunities for women in sports were rare, limited mostly to P.E. classes. Years later, as her sons became involved in inline speed skating, she decided to join them at the age of 44. Although the competitive starts often left her wondering, “Why the heck am I here?” She found the sport a welcome break from the pressures of work.

Injuries from running eventually led her to rediscover cycling, a passion she’d nurtured since childhood. At 62, Gay competed in her first Wyoming Senior Olympics and was immediately hooked. She began traveling to cycling camps across the country, investing in Specialized S-Works bikes, and setting her sights on becoming a top competitor.

a Champions Journey

Her dedication paid off. Gay has competed in the Wyoming Senior Olympics, the Huntsman World Senior Games, and the National Senior Games. Highlights of her career include a bronze medal in the 20K road race at the 2015 National Senior Games in Minnesota—just weeks after undergoing surgery for breast cancer—and a silver medal in the same event in 2022 in Florida. Most recently, in 2024, she earned a gold medal in the criterium race at the Huntsman World Senior Games.

a Passionate advocate

Beyond her personal achievements, Gay serves as a member of the Wyoming Senior Olympics Board of Directors, including six years as treasurer. She’s a passionate advocate for staying active with age, emphasizing how competition fosters disciplined training and a strong sense of community.

After every race, Gay tells herself,

“I can do better.”

This philosophy drives her to continually improve, inspiring others to embrace fitness and find joy in setting and achieving goals—regardless of age.
